Susan S. Muranishi, County Administrator
July 13, 2020
As we start week 18 of our COVID-19 journey, we hope you are healthy and took time to care for yourself and your family over the summer week-end. We also want to again express our gratitude to our County employees for your perseverance and commitment to continue providing critical services to our diverse communities during this unprecedented and dynamic time. The health and safety of our employees and residents continues to be our top priority and as the County proceeds to gradually reopen certain sectors and activities, we want to ensure that you have updated information.
Alameda County was added to the State’s County Monitoring List of now thirty counties on Sunday, July 12th, because of continued increases in new COVID-19 cases in recent weeks. While expanded testing accounts for some of this increase, other likely reasons include increased interpersonal interactions without face coverings and physical distancing, and ongoing transmission among health care workers, within households, in frontline workplace settings, and in skilled nursing and other congregate living facilities.
Although Alameda County is reopening in a gradual and measured way, our epidemic is also affected by accelerated reopening across the region and state, as our residents often live, work and recreate across county boundaries.
Counties that are on the Monitoring List for three days are subject to State-ordered restrictions and modifications for certain sectors and activities. At this time most activities that would be limited by the State orders are not allowed under our local Health Officer Order, and residents and businesses should not experience a significant change.

We appreciate your continued support slowing the spread of COVID-19 by wearing face coverings, avoiding gatherings, maintaining at least 6 feet of distance from people outside of your household, and washing hands frequently. As we continue our COVID-19 journey in the face of significant challenges and uncertainty, we thank you for your resilience and helping to save lives.
